Five judges, five philosophies of law, one impossible case.

My review

Honestly, I don't even know why I read this, haha. My mother gave it to me together with On Crimes and Punishments and The Struggle for Law, and I think that, being a lawyer, she was harbouring some secret hope.

The book is short and the premise is good. Explorers trapped in a cave with no food decide to draw lots for one of them to serve as food for the others. They are rescued and put on trial, and the book presents the opinions of several judges, each with a different line of reasoning: apply the law to the letter, look at the purpose of the law, consider that they were beyond the reach of the State, listen to common sense.

I recommend it to law students or anyone who enjoys a moral philosophy debate. But honestly? Reading it changed nothing in my life.
