Surveillance, propaganda and control of truth in a totalitarian state.

My review

1984 is a good book and, at the same time, simpler than its fame suggests. Easy to follow, direct, with the message right on the surface. To me it is one of the best ways in for someone who never read much, or who is starting high school and wants to begin, haha. And I say that without belittling it. The book says what it wants to say very explicitly. The characters are sometimes more idea than person, and the book-within-the-book drags. My opinion of it is very close to the one I have of Animal Farm: important, clear and a bit too obvious for someone who already reads a lot.

I recommend it to those who are just starting. For those who already have some repertoire, it is worth more for its historical weight than for any surprise.
